Student Successes
Recording Connection apprentice
Syreeta Hall, who recently began her apprenticeship thanks to the
Pensado’s Place scholarship, has not only been making great progress on her studies, but has also had the opportunity to make some great connections and work with some high-profile people as well!
“I have been quite busy lately and thoroughly enjoying my time at ES Audio with Donny [Baker] and the gang,” she says.
“I have been steadily working through the lessons and I just recently received ProTools. It has been great learning new things to do with it, especially at the studio where they have an HD system.”
Recently, Syreeta had the opportunity to assist with setup for a drum tracking session with Alice Cooper’s drummer, and also met Michael Jackson’s niece Yashi Brown who came to the studio to set her poetry to music and to record an audio book. She was also on hand to observe the setup as a TV crew came into
ES Audio to shoot a scene for a reality show starting rapper YoYo! Keep up the great work, Syreeta!
Because our students are trained in the workplace, they often wind up getting hired by the studios where they did their apprenticeships. For
Recording Connection graduate
Eugene Kim, his 2012 apprenticeship at
Media Right Productions in New York City has turned into a rewarding career. After graduating, not only was he hired by the studio, but Eugene has since moved into the lead editor position, doing post-production audio for everything from television commercials to feature films—even doing post-production sound for a national Best Buy spot!
For other graduates who might be interested in post-production audio as a specialty, Eugene suggests checking out the
Manhattan Edit Workshop. Through this workshop, Eugene has met new clients and like-minded artists as well as getting further Avid certification for his specialty.
Eugene speaks highly of his experience with the Recording Connection’s apprenticeship approach.
“I think for a trade or craft, apprenticeships are the way to go,” he says.
“Through the program, I really figured out exactly what I wanted to do.”
