Recording Connection student Gabe Claypoole & mentor Joey Heier
Recording Connection for Audio Engineering & Music Production student Gabe Claypoole is making the most of the opportunity to learn straight from a pro, his mentor engineer and studio owner Joey Heier aka “Uncle Joe” at Crystal Clear Recording.
It’s thanks to his mom that Gabe found Recording Connection. He’d been studying Theology at a university when he decided that path wasn’t for him. Learning how to record music for himself and for others, well, that just felt right:
“I just wanted to do it myself. That was my original idea, but I also have a lot of friends and I know people like their music recorded and stuff along those lines.”
So, Gabe enrolled in Recording Connection and soon he was learning under Joey’s mentorship. Now that he’s reached the end of his externship, Gabe says he’s impressed with how far he’s come in just a matter of months:
“Basically everything that I learned from the beginning in frequency to mic placement, then into EQ and all that nice, fancy stuff, I didn’t know any of it beforehand. I’m not too much into the sciences and engineering, so it was putting me into a place that I wasn’t too comfortable with. But I was able to do it. So I’m happy for myself….I definitely know that I want to learn a lot more. I kind of just got the framework of it all. Now I want to actually dig in deeper.”
