Recording Connection student Tommy Kodel

Recording Connection student Tommy Kodel (Norwalk, CT) who externs with mentor Ethan Tarnow at Factory Underground, has been spending some holiday downtime in a very smart and productive manner:   “I have been working on a new song with a few of my friends. I have been co-producing the whole song from the beat, to the vocals, to the mixing and mastering. I am even rapping on the last verse. It has been going extremely well so far, and I have found that it really helps when you are working with a team of people to bounce ideas off each other. It has been two weeks now that we have been working on it, and I am excited to wrap it up soon. I am getting a lot more comfortable using Logic Pro X and gaining a lot of good experience recording vocals, MIDI, and live instruments.”     Film Connection student Nicole Poulain has been saying yes to challenges during her externship, including stepping into the role of camerawoman on a short film destined for entry into a chapter of the 48 Hour Film Project:     “It has been a crazy last few weeks. My studio peeps and I participated in the Four Points Film Project–did a short called ‘Double Bind’…Since we had a crewmember drop off, I got promoted to camerawoman. Honestly I was so freaking excited. I wanted to do a really good job, and had a couple hiccups on understanding exactly what my boss Ryan wanted me to do (my perspective of what I was seeing was a bit different I think…perhaps I’m a bit too logical when it comes to trajectory…Did some very dramatic ‘shoot-em-up’ scenes that were so freaking fun…   It was a great experience in that I was able to apply a lot of what I’ve been learning through the course…Caroline and Ryan stayed up for 40 hours to edit the short in time for the contest deadline. That’s dedication. I really pray that we win.”
