New
Recording Connection apprentice
Alexa Cooper has wasted no time in becoming an integral part of her mentor studio,
Blue Light Studio in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Just a few weeks into her program, she’s not only helped with setup for recording sessions, but she’s also found creative ways to use some of her other talents as well, including film work and photography!
“I am in the studio 3 or more times a week,” says Alexa.
“I have helped with many things from setting up mics to filming to developing a writable pdf form in Acrobat to send out to booked artists.”
Blue Light Studios is known for its multimedia approach to production, from recording and mixing to in-house video work, and even hosting a monthly live music event in Vancouver called The MIXvan, for which Alexa’s mentor,
Kaj Falch-Nielsen, does the booking. At the most recent MIXvan show, Kaj arranged for Alexa to come in to help with the setup and to photograph the event. As a result, she’s been tapped as the photographer for all the events!
“Every person on TheMIX team noticed how well the pictures were turning out, and each individually told me that I’m hired to come to every show to help out,” she says.
“I am now part of their team after one night!”
As to her studies in the studio, Alexa is making great strides there, as well. A vocalist and guitarist herself, she has plans to record her own album, and she’s even slated to perform at a future MIXvan event.
The Recording Connection encourages all apprentices to make the most of the opportunities that real-world training and apprenticeship provides. Alexa is obviously taking that advice to heart.
“You said to make myself stand out…it’s happening,” she says. Congratulations, Alexa, and keep up the great work!
